#### **What Should I Be Aware Of?**

As a thriving business, you understand the need to pivot to fit better the needs of your clientele, your staff, your work. As you make changes, if any change is related to your phone provider here are some good things to know:

Changing your phone provider **WILL **impact your Kenect service.

- New phone providers can take over SMS privileges preventing your Kenect text messages from sending.
- VOIP systems can also impact message deliverability with your Kenect account.
- Third party answering services may not state explicitly that they are taking ownership of the full capabilities of your phone number so make sure they won’t be utilizing the SMS portion of your number.
- If you are changing providers, you may need an ENTIRELY NEW Kenect enabled number.
- With any change to a new provider you can expect a period of ‘loss of service’ with one system or the other.

In addition to permissions with the number changing, it can also eat up a valuable amount of time to reconfigure the number, get permission back for SMS from the new provider.

#### **What Should I Do If/When I change Phone Providers?**

Here are the Kenect Best practice recommendations if you are changing your phone provider.

- Confirm with your new provider, answers to the following questions:
  - Does this service support third party SMS hosting?
  - Do you use the SMS portion of our number? (*If so, ask if it’s necessary or if it can be left with Kenect*)
  - Does your system use Texting? (*If yes, again, ask if you can keep the SMS portion of the number with Kenect*)
  - How long will it take to get our phone number up and running? (*May seem like a no-brainer question to ask, but a lot of businesses can take weeks*)
  - Is this a VOIP system? (*Voice Over Internet Protocol*) means it is using Wifi for calls rather than actual cell coverage, because of this both Kenect and the VOIP can be utilizing the same phone number. BUT it can interrupt message deliverability on both sides.
  - What kind of costs are associated with migrating our current phone number with your system?
  - Does your new phone provider handle any of the registration process with A2P 10DLC?

In conclusion, as you navigate the complicated world of phone numbers Kenect is anxious to help you strategize on the best approach for utilizing all facets of your phone numbers.
